Want to be part of GMR community miniature railway?
GMR is a volunteer community based miniature railway.
GMR volunteers forfill operational roles:
Train drivers, guards, station masters, construction, maintenance and junior volunteers.
Trains could be battery-operated electric, petrol/diesel-outline engines or *live steam, miniature trains.
*Live steam trains require specialized training.
- Train drivers operate 5" & 7 1/4" gauge trains.
- Guards help with passenger assistance and safety.
- Station masters manage the station and tickets.
- Construction consists of ongoing extended railway structure and new infrastructure.
- Maintenance includes looking after track, trains, carriages and performing essential safety checks.
- Junior volunteers (10-16 years old) must be accompanied by a parent/guardian whilst volunteering.
Volunteers 2026
GMR volunteers have enjoyed public running days, steam locomotive demonstrations, portable track assembling and disassembling, permanent track building days, and a signal building day to date.
The future involves building of GMR's permanent track, training volunteers in their areas of interest, club running days, public days and overall enjoyement of our miniature railway with constant improvements to enhance our volunteer and visitor experience.
